Monday Miscellaneous and the Winners!

So…..I was away from school Thursday and Friday sick. So today was sort of a catch up, clean up, get everyone back on track kind of day. My kiddos tend to forget everything we have ever learned and practiced when I am away and it takes a good half day for it to kick back in.

So today is all about pics. I’ve been taking tons and forgetting to post about them.
So here is some stuff we have been working on lately…

Fixed and a Giveaway!

Well….I’ve learned a lesson. Don’t delete pictures from Picasa. Even if you never use Picasa. Because apparently they are linked to your blog and all your pictures will be gone and the links will be broken.
I spent 3 hours or so going back and uploading the pics again to Picasa and then going through each post and re posting each picture. Ugh. At least I’ve only been blogging for 6 months. So there weren’t too many posts I had to go back and re fix.
Let me know if you see any broken pictures or links that don’t work!

And now for a giveaway!
So many bloggers have helped me when I have questions and can’t seem to figure out stuff so I want to give back!
I’ve created a new math pack all about making combinations of 5 and 10. These are important anchor numbers for kids to know and will help them later on when they begin to use a variety of strategies when solving problems.
The 26 page packet comes with a variety of math games designed to help students learn the combinations that make 5 and 10. Students will use dot patterns, finger patterns and numbers to make different combinations.

Check it out!

I make most of my stuff in black and white and then just print on coloured cardstock! It saves ink and I like the look better.

So here’s the deal. There are 2 ways to get this awesome possum pack.

1. Write a blog post about the giveaway. If you write a post on your blog and mention my giveaway……..I WILL SEND YOU THE PACK FOR FREE!!! All you have to do is write a post about it, link it back to my giveaway and then leave a comment on my blog saying that you shared my giveaway and leave your name, email and the URL of the blog post. I will then email you the pack for free! To say thanks!

Caterpillar Counting

Here’s an activity I adapted from Debbie Diller’s Math Workstations book.

Students roll 2 dice and add the dots together. They record that number on the first circle of the caterpillar and then continue the sequence of numbers. Students continue rolling and recording numbers in sequence. Students can use a number line or hundreds chart to check their numbers. (Sorry for the glare…was using my camera phone again)

For practice writing number sequences up to 100 and above: Turn over flash cards instead of rolling dice to get the first number.

For a simpler writing sequence: Only use 1 die.

I printed these out on cardstock and laminated them. This will become a Math by Myself activity in my Daily 5 bins.

I have also printed them on paper double sided and cut them in half and stapled to make Caterpillar Counting books.

My kids have also been having fun playing the Spinnerama games in Math With Someone!

Remembrance Day

Today we had our Remembrance Day Assembly. We have been reading books about Remembrance day, having discussions about the brave soldiers and why we wear a poppy for them.
One of the stories we read was “Can You Say Peace?” by Karen Katz.

The story talks about children in different parts of the world and how we all want the same thing. Each child tells how to say “Peace” in their language. We wrote down a few from the book and then recorded them on paper strips for our Poppy Collage Bulletin board.
I drew a poppy for the class and then cut it up into pieces.

Each pair of students got a piece of the poppy. We first spent time looking through magazines and cutting out any red we could find.

Then we used our red magazine, tissue paper and construction paper pieces to create a collage.

Here is the finished product complete with our words of peace! (sorry for the yucky pictures….I took them with my phone)
